Unit 6: Avian Research Project and Dissertation
Throughout the course, students will research an avian disease, poultry production or food safety topic. A mentor will be assigned from the University of Melbourne or University of Georgia.
Class Activities
This subject requires extensive literature researching, and depending on the project some laboratory/field investigation of a problem. Students will be expected to present their work in a 10,000 word written dissertation at the completion of the course.
Learning Objectives
- Develop a balanced understanding of how best to appreciate and use as professional resources the different types of scientific and technical literature.
- Acquire techniques and analytical abilities to enable preparation of a valid scientific research dissertation on a poultry health or production issue of your choice.
- Developed the ability to critically read and review scientific literature.
- Enhance personal communication and presentation skills.
- Prepare effective presentations for varying types of audiences.
Assessment
Assessment will be made on the quality of the student’s research and final dissertation.
Tutor
Assessors of your dissertation will depend on the topic chosen and will most likely be professionals working in academia and in industry.
